Task 2: Social Learning
For this assignment I was required to learn to use a social networking site, teach a peer how to access and contribute to my social site, and complete a peer review of one of my peers social networking sites. First, I need to think of a social situation where social networking could assist in the organisation of an event (such as a family reunion, a sporting carnival, a play group, a social club, etc.). Then I need to investigate social media technologies, select the most appropriate tool to support my social situation and describe what the networking site does. Finally I need to create a multimedia resource to provide clear instructions on how to access my social space and what my partner needs to contribute to my social space.
My social context I am an avid reader of murder mysteries so I decided to create an online book club group. I did a Google search for "online book clubs" and found a blog post titled Top 5 online Book clubs which was posted the Social Media Mom website in 2011. I had a look at the 5 recommended sites: Shelfari, Goodreads, Real simple no-obligation book club, Dear Reader and Online book club.org.
Shelfari and Goodreads both appeared to have lots of useful features and are Free. I finally decided to try Shelfari as the site was easy to navigate and it had a comprehensive help section to get me started. About Shelfari Shelfari is a social book sharing technology. You can add books to your shelf from Amazon, mark the ones you have read, or would like to read. You can write book reviews and recommend books for your friends. It is a great way to let your family know what to buy you for birthdays & Christmas ! |
My Shelfari book group My book group is called Murder & Mayhem. If you enjoy reading murder mysteries I invite you to join our book group, review the books we have read, recommend good books you have read and share your favourite authors with us!
